On your first visit, I will take a history of your complaints as well as a past history, family history, etc. I will find out as much about you as I can to begin putting the pieces of the puzzle (of WHY you hurt) together. My focus will be on searching for the CAUSE of your health problems, and not just on dealing with the symptoms. I will let you know if I think I can help you and how quickly. Your first visit will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
If I don’t feel that I can help you, I will be happy to refer you to an appropriate specialist or practitioner.
Normally, treatment begins on your first visit. Even if you need more diagnostic tests, such as X-rays or MRI, the majority of the time I can begin working on decreasing your pain or dysfunction on that first visit.
Your second and ongoing treatments will usually take 15-30 minutes. Your treatments will consist of whatever YOU need, whether that is chiropractic adjustments or mobilization, soft tissue treatment with my hands or with tools (trigger point treatment or Graston or Fasciablaster ), postural re-alignment, or rehabilitative or corrective exercises (done by you with me positioning you correctly). I also may incorporate laser (Class IV) to decrease pain and inflammation, nutritional advice (to decrease inflammation), or kinesiotape to support and heal the area.
I will NEVER just give you a list of exercises to do. I believe that the maximum benefit from corrective exercises is when your body is in the PERFECT position to access the small muscles that normally you wouldn’t be accessing. In other words, many people use the stronger muscles when they do an exercise instead of using the weaker, smaller, or stabilizing muscles. This then contributes to injuries.
As I work with you, I will teach you skills to:
a) decrease your pain or dysfunction
b) learn what to do to stop the pain from coming back
c) change what you are able to of the factors that may be contributing to your pain or dysfunction, such as posture, activity, exercise, sleeping position, driving positions, and even the food you eat!
I believe that many people need a health coach, someone who will take the time and has the knowledge to direct you to your best options for your health. I am trained and have geared my techniques and knowledge to do this.
